ROSE PREVITE

Rose is an award-winning restaurateur and owner of Compass Rose and the Michelin-starred Maydān restaurants in Washington, DC with other efforts in the works across the country. Rose’s social impact projects all tell stories through food and wine, with a focus on elevating women and other cultures.

Her first restaurant, Compass Rose, was inspired by traveling to 30+ countries while living in Russia with her husband, David Greene, who was posted there as an NPR correspondent. Opened in 2014, this pioneering restaurant features food from other cultures and highlights winemakers often excluded from the traditional wine world; earning Rose and her unique approach recognition by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Food & Wine, and Bon Appetit.

Rose next opened Maydān—focusing on tastes and stories from Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Georgia, and Lebanon—which was named to “Best New Restaurants in America” lists by Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, GQ, and Eater. Maydān was also a James Beard Award Semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2018; and earned a Michelin Star in 2019.

In addition to supporting other local social enterprises, Rose is a progressive small business entrepreneur, has been honored by numerous “40 Under 40” lists, and named one of the “Most Powerful Women in Washington” by the Washingtonian.

Rose’s first food job was in her mother’s Middle Eastern catering business and restaurant. She later spent more than a decade working in bars and restaurants while pursuing a master’s degree in Public Policy from George Mason University.
