Our partners at SEED SPOT invest in diverse + impact-driven social entrepreneurs around the world. Learn about CEO Zach Leverenz here.

We spend a lot of time thinking about resources and impact, especially our own. To this end, we are currently focusing our work in three specific areas:

  1. Serving as a fractional/part-time philanthropy officer for individuals or families (currently 3 spaces left for 2023),

  2. Working with clients to increase the impact of Donor Advised Fund distributions, and

  3. Leading bespoke special projects for individuals, families, and foundations.

These engagements are led by our Founder, Chandler Arnold, with support from our subject area experts who leverage expertise across a range of impact areas and philanthropic disciplines.

FRACTIONAL/PART-TIME PHILANTHROPY OFFICER

Mega philanthropists have entire teams helping them do their work. On the other hand, small donors often enjoy managing all aspects of their giving individually. Mid-size philanthropists, however, often face the challenge of wanting to scale their impact but lack the time or expertise to manage this growth.

“I knew I had the capacity to increase my personal philanthropy but didn’t have the time or the expertise to do it alone. I didn’t need a full-time person but I REALLY needed a deeply experienced part-time leader to bring my vision to life. Untraditional Philanthropy wildly exceeded my expectations and we are expanding our work together in Year Two.”

—Gina A. Phillips, President, Samuel L. Phillips Family Foundation

After completing a large project, Chandler has released capacity for two additional Fractional/Part-Time Philanthropy Officer roles.

DONOR ADVISED FUND OFFERINGS

“I’ve set up a Donor-Advised Fund but I’m not sure what to do next. I'm a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to start.”

Many of our clients are excited about the potential of Donor-Advised funds (DAFs) but aren’t sure how to make their philanthropic goals a reality. We’ve developed three client offerings to help increase impact and meaning via this unique philanthropic vehicle.

  • DAF STRATEGY WORKSHOP SERIES (cohort of 6-8). Led by our founder with guidance from our experts, this 6-session workshop allows you to develop your own 18-month philanthropic plan while connecting with fellow donors at similar stages of their own work.

  • DAF STRATEGY WORKSHOP SERIES (individual). This leverages the 6-session approach described above in a bespoke one-on-one offering tailored to your goals.

  • INDIVIDUAL DAF CONSULTATIONS (hourly). We also offer individual consultings on a range of topics, including those highlighted below.

Our DAF advisory approach generally centers on six elements: 1) Defining your vision/goals 2) Focusing your passion, 3) Identifying grantees, 4) Centering diversity, equity + inclusion, 5) Defining + measuring impact and 6) Developing your 18-month personal philanthropic plan.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

SPECIAL PROJECTS W/ WITH INDIVIDUALS + FAMILIES

We lead a range of special projects for individuals and families, including:

  • Whether you need help deciding which issue is right for you, or you want to identify a specific organization doing incredible work in a that area, we can help.

  • We can also work with individuals or families to create 12-, 18-, or 24-month personalized impact plans—with timelines, key goals, and impact milestones to keep you on track.

  • Chandler offers a bespoke 6-month impact planning offering. This one-on-one advisory starts with big picture questions about your goals and concludes with your own 18-month personalized impact plan. Individual sessions can be tailored to your schedule.

  • We also offer a range of options for children and grandchildren interested in getting started with—or taking on larger roles regarding—family philanthropy.

SPECIAL PROJECTS WITH ADVISORS TO HIGH-CAPACITY DONORS

We also work with financial advisors, lawyers, accountants, and estate planners advising high-capacity donors:

  • We are able to work with your firm to highlight your impact commitment to potential philanthropically minded clients—from planning in-person gatherings, to virtual events, to receptions, to workshops + convenings—featuring Untraditional Philanthropy experts.

  • We are also able to work with you to retain and support philanthropically minded clients in a number of ways. We don’t presume to do what you do; we complement your expertise with anything from workshops to one-on-one sessions to bespoke advisory services addressing specific client needs.

  • We are also able to work with you to plan a range of social impact events, receptions and workshops for you clients. These can be stand-alone or incorporated into larger events your firm may be planning.

  • We are also happy to work with you to tailor a workshop—or a series of workshops—for your clients. These can cover a broad range of topics, from choosing a case or organization, to impact planning, to involving children and grandchildren in philanthropy, to how to be a more effective board member, to a range of other topics.

SPECIAL PROJECTS W/ FAMILY OFFICES + FAMILY FOUNDATIONS

We offer a range of special project options for family offices and family foundations, including:

  • Many families don’t need a full-time philanthropy officer, but they do need this leadership in a part-time or acting capacity. We are happy to work with you to create a tailored solution to fit your unique needs. Given the bespoke nature of this offering, availability is limited.

  • Whether your family needs help deciding which issue is right for you, or you want to identify a specific organization doing incredible work in a that area, we can help.

  • We offer a range of workshops, individualized working sessions, and retreats to help you define impact on your own terms—and then work with you to develop a personalized strategy to get there.

  • Engaging 2nd and 3rd generation donors is top of mind for many families. We offer services for both older and younger generations in this category, as well as facilitated workshops bringing different generations of the family together.

SPECIAL PROJECTS W/ BUSINESSES

Special project work with impact-focused businesses could include:

  • Having developed and implemented CSR projects with more than 15 Fortune 500 Companies, we LOVE doing this work. From goal setting, to program design, to implementation—we can work with your teams to design a program that drives real (and measurable) impact while advancing key business goals.

  • We are uniquely positioned to lead a range of DEI efforts by leveraging our subject area experts to hand-craft a team tailored to your needs.

  • As with our DEI work, we leverage our subject area experts to hand-craft a team of experienced leaders tailored to your needs.

SPECIAL PROJECTS W/ SOCIAL ENTERPRISES + NONPROFITS

We also lead a limited number of special projects with social enterprises and nonprofit organizations, including:

  • Far too many nonprofits find themselves forced to articulate their own impact in terms defined by someone else. In contrast, we believe organizations find a liberation (and a power) when they define impact for themselves. We help you do this, and then to identify impact metrics that truly make sense.

  • From exploring different financing models to pressure-testing your revenue generating business plan, we are here to help you along each step of scaling journey.

  • We offer a range of workshops and individual sessions to help anyone become a more effective board member.

  • We offer a range of workshops and trainings — from proven modules focused on everything from fundraising, to storytelling for social impact, to DEI—to specially designed offerings tailored to your individual needs.

“Chandler is also unique as an advisor because he has actually run and scaled social impact organizations himself. This experience—along with his unique ability to build trust quickly—means he adds value from Day One.”

— Michael S. Deimler

Managing Director + Global Innovation Leader, BCG

“At some point, Chandler began to finish my sentences, putting me at ease on many levels. He curates compelling options and implements them in ways that drive real, measurable results. Simply put, he is taking my project to heights even I had not envisioned.”
