ABBY FENTON
Abby is the Executive Director of the Whitman-Walker Foundation.
The Whitman-Walker Foundation believes all people deserve accessible, affordable, high-quality healthcare in a safe environment and free of bias, judgment, and discrimination. The foundation raises community-based philanthropic support to ensure the sustainability of our services, and to advance our vision of social justice and equality through health.
Each year the Foundation supports tens of thousands of individuals regardless of their ability to pay. This includes free evening health clinics, free HIV testing at our GMHW Sexual Health Clinic, free legal clinics to support name and gender change, and free medical, legal and mental health services to transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, and free services to clients who may be seeking asylum because of who they are and how they identify.
Abby oversees Whitman-Walker’s external affairs and philanthropy as the Executive Director and Chief External Affairs Officer at Whitman-Walker Foundation. Abby is passionate about her work because she loves Washington, DC and supporting its residents in a meaningful way without judgment of stigma.
Prior to Whitman-Walker Abby served as Director of Community Relations for Washington DC’s ABC7/WJLA-TV & News Channel 8 and Director of Partner Engagement for the DC Chamber of Commerce.
Abby is extremely proud of her Western Massachusetts upbringing and her alma mater Kenyon College. In a prior life Abby also had a career in theatre, TV and movies.
