RACHAEL OROSE

Rachael is the Executive Director of Words Alive. Words Alive creates empowering programs that inspire life-long learners through reading. Beyond just putting books in their hands, Words Alive provides students and families the knowledge and resources they need to use reading as a tool to change their lives.

Rachael is especially adept at helping organizations pivot when needed to advance the mission. When COVID-19 struck, Rachael transitioned from in-person programming in one community to a robust virtual program—with volunteers from around the world—in a matter of days. During the COVID-19 pandemic Words Alive connected more than 50,000 families and teachers to digital resources and activated more than 1,000 virtual volunteers from around the world to help engage San Diego’s youth. An incredible model focused on local impact, Words Alive serves ~5,000 children, teens, and families through core programs each year.

Previously Rachael served as Vice President of The Molina Foundation, where she focused on operations, community partnerships, and fundraising. She has also served as Manager of Corporate Strategy for the American Red Cross and Senior Director for First Book. She has also held numerous positions for a variety of community-based organizations in both New York and Michigan.

Rachael holds a graduate degree in public and nonprofit administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and an undergraduate degree in the same field from Grand Valley State University.
